Journaling through Ephesians | Kind. Tenderhearted. Forgiving.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Kindness: something the world sees as a something a “good” person would do, showing the best side of humanity. But the kindness that Jesus calls us to goes beyond a kind word now and again. It’s a lifestyle and a way of life - not just to be a good human, but to reflect the relentless and unconditional kindness of Jesus. We are kind as Jesus is forever kind to us.
Being tenderhearted: something the world considers nice but only in certain situations. But being tenderhearted as God tells us to doesn’t have exceptions. Every person we encounter is a soul created by God and given a chance of redemption. So even when we want to harden our hearts towards the mean and ungrateful, we are tenderhearted as Jesus’s heart was tender to us.
Forgiving: something the world sees as a weakness. But God doesn’t ask us just to forgive the people that we feel are deserving or to just move on and be indifferent. Forgiveness doesn’t make sense to the world because it’s seen as hurting ourselves. But instead it’s one of the most powerful things we can do - not because of who we are and what we’ve done but because of who our Forgiver is and what He has done. We forgive because God has endlessly forgiven us.
Kindness. Tenderhearted. Forgiving.
Not as the world sees it, but as God shows us in Truth - in his words and in his deeds in his kindness, tenderheartedness, and forgiveness towards us.
This verse is from the book of Ephesians, a book that helps us see what God has given for us and how we can give to God in how we live our lives.
