Planning prayerfully

A weekly page from the Evergreen Planner

For some, we love planning out our time.

For others, we like the idea of planning, but can never seem to stick with it.

And still others rather not plan at all.

But no matter which category we fall in, we’re all given the same gift…

…a precious thing called time.

It’s limited, and what we do with it matters. It echoes into eternity – for us and for those who God puts in our lives.

So when we stand before God in at the end, how will we answer for the gift of time that he has given us (similar to the talents given to the servants in Matthew 25)?

Planning with priority

There’s a lot that can take our time. While there are bad choices, most of the time, what we chose to do are neutral.

It’s not so much about what’s on our calendar as much as who are we doing them for.

We live to the Lord. Our lives are his.

Our time is his.

And so we take the time to think about our time — and how we can use it for God’s eternal purpose.

Front cover of the Evergreen Planner

So we created this Evergreen Planner that can be used in a variety of ways, but to primarily encourage planning in a prayerful way.

The three sections on a weekly page are day planning, a weekly tracker, and a notes section. But we also added a fourth element to allow us to focus on our priority in God!

Day planning: each day has five different slots in which to note an upcoming plan with a check-off circle to mark it as complete.

Day planning

Weekly tracker: each week has a designated area to keep track of various habits we want to stick to. One of the most important ones is our time with God and can include any other habits that we want to be diligent to keep.

Weekly tracker, “keeping track”

“Remember:” there are some things that don’t fit on a particular day and so the remember section is for any overflow notes. But it can also just as easily be used to help us remember who to pray for and even who to reach out to during the week.

Remembering what’s important

The priority: each month, we look at a different word from Scripture. And as we plan our month, we think on the word a little deeper. (Example below: “precious”)

Example of a month spread

So then as we plan our weeks, we look at different passages in the Bible that encourages us with that word! (Example below: “joy”)

Noting Scripture and what it means

So as the flurry of activities start and we begin getting our pens out to make plans…

  1. Enjoy planning your time

  2. Always remember why we do what we do

  3. Prioritize the one thing that is important
