Journaling through Hebrews 9:21-22 | The blood that gives us forgiveness

“And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9‬:‭21‬-‭22‬ ‭

In the Old Testament, it was hard to miss the visual of blood paying for our personal sins. Sacrifice after sacrifice was made. Atonement Day would come with the relief that our sins were erased…. until the next time.

It was the way of the Law.

And the blood paid the price. It couldn’t be escaped.

Then came Jesus.

And the New Testament has the same message - blood is needed for sacrifice.

But it was one sacrifice.

And it was the blood of the King himself, given as the payment for our sin and ending in his death.

That was the last sacrifice ever made for sin.

None other is needed. The power of it stretched across all time, fulfilling the need of redemption for every soul.

Because without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

And though we may not see the sacrifices and the blood paid for us constantly, may we never forget the ultimate and unending precious blood of Christ that we need every day.

Praise God for his blood.
