December journal “unboxing”

This is the “unboxing” of the November mailer with the December journal, “In the beginning”!

“In the beginning...” It’s the phrase to start all incredible stories. It promises a narrative that will give us intricate details and finally reveal the big picture; a telling of the fight of good vs evil, purpose fulfilled, and true love. The reality is that all good stories we can think of are simply attempts to copy the one and only story of God. And as amazing as they can be, none come close to the Truth.

So starts the Bible, the narrative of a God who created, but didn’t leave when evil came. Instead this God powerfully rescued his people again and again, giving them a way to fight back and to live with the purpose that he had originally created for them. We know the details. And we see the big picture: he loved us the whole time, enough to come himself to fight the evil – and conquer it, permanently and for all time. And the reveal: we get to be with our Creator again, away from sin. It’s all true. And it all started in the beginning...

This is what our everseeking subscribers are studying in November 2025! So let’s take a closer look at everything in the study and the mailer…

The journal

In the beginning… The main character could have been darkness. It could have been the void.

But in the beginning was the fullness of God.

He was in the beginning. But it wasn’t his beginning. He was already reigning. His power was already a fact. No one else could compete.

And in this, our beginning, God created.

This is the story given to us not only in Genesis 1, but also in John 1. Both stories intertwine to give us a detailed picture of what happened at the start of it all. And each piece builds on each other, showing us the beauty of what God can do.

Because God is the God of beginnings.

He gives us new life, making us a new creation.

The God who changes the formless void into a beautiful and intricate world is able to take the emptiness in us and give us life that is indescribably good.

He is the God of beginnings. So let’s see what it looked like at the very start of it all...

In the beginning... this is the way the Bible opens with the first book of the Old Testament. It starts at the beginning. So for the left pages, we’ll take the beginning of Genesis a little at a time, looking at different verses, making notes, answering questions, and connecting it with other parts of the Bible (along with reading a note of encouragement).

But that’s not the only part of the Bible that gives us “in the beginning” – the gospel of John mirrors it with the same words... and gives us another perspective. It’s not a different story – it’s the same one! But not only do we get more of a look behind the curtain, we get to see the continuation of that story. So for the right pages, we’ll look at the beginning of the gospel according to John and see how it matches up with what we’ve read in Genesis, with the same layout, and also wrapping up with a thought of encouragement.

Studying through this takes us through the main 20 days of study. As in every everseeking journal, the “main study” can be done in 20 days because we all have those moments where we get behind, so this gives a little room.

But if you’re studying every day and get to day 20 and you still have 10 more days in the month, there are 10 extra pages of the journal (called “optional pages”) that take a deeper look at what we already studied.

In this journal… There is another passage that talks about the beginning. It’s not as in depth, but it still gives us another layer of what the beginning was like. It’s another chapter one – the first chapter of Hebrews! So in the optional pages, we similarly look a little at a time of what it looks like in the beginning.

So whether you complete the main study with the 20 pages or the main 20 + the optional 10, you have succeeded in spending the month studying the Word of God!

The washi tape

As always, every everseeking journal comes with it’s set of washi tape: solid and patterned!

This month’s washi tape matches the Christmas theme for this month and a similar solid color washi tape! We use these for highlighting certain thoughts, creating tabs throughout the journal, decorating, adding extra notes (scrapbooking style), color coding, and more! For more details, check out our “How to use washi tape for Bible journaling” blog at https://www.evergreencypress.com/blog/how-to-use-washi-tape-for-bible-journaling.

Two felt tip markers

Added to our December journal are two felt tip markers! The pair of markers were two different colors to give options while journaling. We always love being able to color-code or highlight different parts of what we’re studying to help us remember and these felt tip markers are perfect for that — and with a fine tip so it doesn’t write too big/take too much room!

Set of Christmas stencils

And with the spirit of the holidays, we added a set of three festive stencils! These can either be added into the journal or enjoyed as a separate craft. (Hint: these work great with the felt tip markers!)

For passport for 2025 - December sticker

And finally for those who joined our Everseeking Resolution for 2025 (those subscribed by December 1, 2024), we added the matching sticker that goes inside our 2025 everseeking passport (that was sent earlier)! We look forward to hearing your favorite verse, a takeaway and notes.

It’s our encouragement to stay strong in being everseeking of God in 2025 — our everseeking resolution!

Homeschool edition

We also have everseeking for homeschool!

The homeschool edition sends out the same journal of the month for the girl to study through. With the 20 days of the main study, she gets to also go through one page a day for each weekday for the 4 weeks of the month.

The difference with the homeschool edition is that instead of the extras, the girl receives three pages…

  1. Pacing guide: this takes the 20 days and schedules them in the specific month of study (in this case, December 2025). Here, she can check off each day as she completes it.

  2. Discussion questions: after the girl has completed her study page for the day, there is an extra discussion question that matches (for example, discussion question number 4 goes with day 04 of the study). This is intended to help the girl explain what she has studied and for the teacher and girl to further discuss what the study of God’s Word means in her life.

  3. Knowing Scripture/ end-of-month / encouragement: every month, the knowing Scripture section remains the same, but reminds the girl to keep a part of the study deep on her heart. She selects her theme verse for the study and writes it on the pacing guide to look at daily and then talk about it with the teacher throughout the month. The end of month section has an activity or assignment that helps the girl think through the study as a whole from a specific perspective as a review. And finally, the encouragement is for the teacher, to bolster her as she guides the girl in her care in God’s Word — making an eternal difference in her life!
