Hope. Steadfast love. Plentiful redemption.
From Psalm 130 “O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
Hope. Steadfast love. Plentiful redemption.
This is life in God.
Hope is not without promise. It’s not a wish that we think might someday come true. It’s an assured expectation. It’s alive: “He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3).
His steadfast love is unlike any other. Many have tried to imitate the love of God and while God’s love may pour through others, we know the Source. God’s love is uncompromising, unconditional, and irrevocable – he won’t break his love for us, he loves us no matter what, and nothing can take it away from us. “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
And his redemption… it’s absolutely plentiful. He will never stop redeeming us. He chose to die and be our intercessor, acting as the go-between for us and God. He doesn’t plead our case to God, because the verdict is obvious – we must pay for the injustice, for the sins we did. Instead, Jesus pleads on our behalf for God to look at Jesus himself to pronounce our judgement, that he has paid for the injustice of our sins. And in so doing, we are deemed innocent through Christ – and redeemed back to God. It’s plentiful for all of us and it’s plentiful for each of us. “…he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. (Hebrews 9:12)
“O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
